In the past we’ve mentioned that Cardinal John Henry Newman’s understanding of dogma was very flawed. A clear example of that is found in the following passage.
John Henry Newman, An Essay On The Development Of Christian Doctrine, Chapter 2, Sect. 3, 1878: “Of the Sacraments, Baptism is developed into Confirmation on the one hand; into Penance, Purgatory, and Indulgences on the other.”
According to Newman, Confirmation is a development of Baptism. But that’s false. Such a notion was condemned as a modernist error in the following passage of Pope St. Pius X’s Lamentabile.
Pope St. Pius X, Lamentabile, The Errors of the Modernists, July 3, 1907, #44: “There is nothing to prove that the rite of the Sacrament of Confirmation was employed by the Apostles. The formal distinction of the two Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation does not pertain to the history of primitive Christianity.” - CONDEMNED
Confirmation was not a development of Baptism, but a separate sacrament instituted by Christ, as the Catechism of the Council of Trent taught.
Catechism of the Council of Trent, Institution of Confirmation: “Accordingly, pastors must explain that not only was [Confirmation] instituted by Christ the Lord, but that by Him were also ordained, as Pope St. Fabian testifies, the rite of chrism and the words which the Catholic Church uses in its administration. This is a fact easy to prove to those who acknowledge Confirmation to be a Sacrament, because all the sacred mysteries exceed the powers of human nature and could be instituted by no other than God alone.”

As the video covers, Gregory directly says that the See of Rome is “president over all”, not just the West. He says that Rome is binding together the West because heresies were flourishing more in the East than in the West. But the presidency of Rome is “over all”. Certain dishonest heretics have misrepresented the facts about and the status of the Second Plenary Council of Baltimore, which took place in 1866. They have claimed that the pope at the time, Pope Pius IX, specifically approved and looked over all the decrees that were issued by that national council. Their claim is not true. Those individuals are not only dishonest, but they are often unfamiliar with the basic distinction between something approved in common form (in forma communi) and something approved in specific form (in forma specifica). Only acts approved in the latter way are protected by infallibility. The fact that a Roman Congregation revises a book or a decree does not guarantee that the revised work is without error or definitive or that it’s an act of the Chair of St. Peter. An obvious example of how Roman Congregations and members of Roman Congregations can be wrong is found in the geocentrism controversy. In the 17th century Roman Congregations (with the approval of popes in forma communi) considered the denial of geocentrism to be heresy. But in the 19th century Roman Congregations changed their position and specifically allowed people to embrace heliocentrism. Regardless of which position one takes on that matter, both positions cannot be correct. One must admit that Roman Congregations were wrong either in the 17th century or in the 19th century. But the Chair of St. Peter and the Magisterium are never wrong. This further demonstrates that Roman Congregations are not identical to the Magisterium.
The fact that the Second Council of Baltimore was not approved in forma specifica – and not even in forma communi, according to Smith – is relevant because the decrees of the Second Council of Baltimore contain a few erroneous expressions on the salvation and baptism issue. That should not be a surprise because, as we’ve pointed out repeatedly, the Vatican II apostasy and the breakdown of the faith did not happen three days before Vatican II. The breakdown of the faith began over a hundred years before Vatican II, with errors on the salvation dogma being taught not by the Chair of Peter or the Magisterium but in fallible acts and by various fallible theologians. Many people were falling into serious errors in the 1800s, and this was especially true on the crucial matter of the necessity of baptism and the Catholic Church for salvation. Those who fail to realize this are naïve and ignorant. Man-worshippers who lack divine faith and have no fidelity to the dogmas and the teaching of the Chair of St. Peter cannot comprehend this simple fact. However, it should be noted that the erroneous passages in the Second Council of Baltimore do not teach the blatant and condemned heresy that souls can be saved without any belief in Jesus Christ.
Further, the acts of the aforementioned council open with a profession of faith, taken from the Council of Trent, which correctly asserts that no one can be saved without the Catholic faith and that the sacraments of the New Law are necessary for salvation, although all the sacraments are not necessary for each individual. That means that at least one sacrament (namely, Baptism) is required to be saved, and that everyone must have the Catholic faith to be saved. Unlike the other decrees of the Second Council of Baltimore, the position that the Sacrament of Baptism and the Catholic faith are required for every person’s salvation (which the council repeated through its profession of faith) is infallible because it was also contained in the dogmatic decrees of the Councils of Trent, Vatican I, and more. Thus, while various heretics mispresent the facts about the Second Council of Baltimore – and they attempt to use its fallible and non-definitive decrees to bolster their false position on salvation – they depart from the definitive and infallible profession of faith that was repeated by the same council. Here’s more of what Sebastian Bach Smith said on the matter of the Second Council of Baltimore.
Sebastian Bach Smith, Elements of Ecclesiastical Law, Imprimatur 1887, Vol. 1, pp. 75-78: “What is meant by the confirmation of councils in forma communi and in forma specifica?... Benedict XIV says: ‘Statutes are said to be confirmed in common form, which are not individually examined or approved by the Roman Pontiff motu proprio [of his own accord], et ex certa scientia [from certain knowledge].’ Confirmation in forma specifica is that ‘which is made with perfect knowledge of the whole affair and all of its circumstances.’ Benedict XIV explains this more explicitly: ‘Confirmation in specific form [in forma specifica] is said to be made when it is preceded by an examination of the case and each individual statute is carefully weighed up, and then, with no added condition, confirmation is pronounced by Apostolic Authority with the clause motu proprio and from certain knowledge.’
171. Q. How can it be known that a provincial or national council is approved in forma specifica and not merely in forma communi? A. 1. When the tenor or contents of its decrees are inserted in the instrument of confirmation. 2. When, in the absence of the above, these phrases are used: ex certa scientia; proprio motu; ex plenitudine potestatis; non obstante lege aut consuetudine in contrarium, or supplentes omnes juris et facti, defectus. 3.) The recognitio by the Sacred Congregation is not sufficient; the confirmation must be given by letters Apostolic.
172. In case of doubt whether a council is approved in forma specifica or only in forma communi, canonists commonly hold that it is approved merely in forma communi…
174. Is the Second Plenary Council of Baltimore approved in forma specifica? A. 1. It is not; for the Decretum of the Propaganda, dated Jan. 24, 1868, Pro Recognitione Concilii (Pl. Balt. II.), has none of the marks above given in confirmation of the forma specifica. This appears from the decree itself, which reads: ‘The Same Sacred Congregation, having applied diligent inquiry, with a few corrections and observations excepted, has judged and most willingly recognized the acts and decrees of the same Second Plenary Council of Baltimore, so that the same may be inviolately observed by all to whom they pertain.’ Moreover, the sole revision and approbation of decrees by a Sacred Congregation is not Papal confirmation, at least in forma specifica. For decrees of councils are sanctioned in forma specifica, not by a ‘Decretum S. Congr. pro recognitione concilii’, but by apostolic letters or briefs. Now, the decrees of Baltimore were confirmed, or rather reviewed, not by apostolic letters, but by a Decretum S. C. de Prop. Fide’ above mentioned, as appears clearly from the Holy Father’s reply to the Fathers of Baltimore, Sept. 2, 1867: ‘What pertains to the Acts of the Council (Second Plenary of Baltimore), it is appropriate that you will receive a response concerning the same Acts, after they have been set before our Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith.’
From what has been said we infer that it is allowed to appeal to the S. C. de Prop. Fide from the decrees of the Second Plenary Council of Baltimore, and also from the decrees of the Third Plenary Council of Baltimore, held in 1884; for, the confirmatio in forma communi does not remove the defectus juris that may be contained in their enactments…
Note: A careful study of the subject would seem to show that the Second Plenary Council of Baltimore was not confirmed by the Holy See in any form, not even in forma communi, but merely revised and corrected [by a Roman Congregation]. ‘Thus, the decree of the Propaganda (C. Pl. Balt. IL., p. cxxxvi.) has for its heading the words: ‘Decretum pro Recognitione Concilii’; but not ‘Decretum pro approbatione or confirmatione Concilii.’”

False Trad John 3:5 mockers are often very lenient toward members of the Novus Ordo, Protestants, other non-Catholics, etc. But when they encounter people who adhere to Jesus’ words in John 3:5 (which have been defined as a dogma), their demonic wrath, pseudo-condemnations, and calumnies come out.

And since death entered the universe through the first man, ‘unless we are born again of water and the Spirit, we cannot,’ as the Truth says, ‘enter into the kingdom of heaven’ [John 3:5]. The matter of this sacrament is real and natural water.”
When confronted with the Catholic Church’s dogmatic teaching that no one can be saved without baptism (which is based directly on Jesus’ solemn proclamation), their reaction is comparable to the people in this video.
They are legion. They hate the necessity of baptism because they are evil and the Sacrament of Baptism is the necessary gateway to Christ and His one true Church (Council of Florence).
It’s also noteworthy that many independent False Trad priests and illicit bishops are the most aggressive and vicious opponents of Catholic truth on baptism in our day. We don’t think that’s just a coincidence. Those heretical independent “priests” and “bishops”, who have NO PERMISSION from the Catholic Church to function as Catholic priests and bishops, have been raised up by Satan to oppose the true remnant Catholic Church in our day. The true Catholic remnant in our day successfully opposes and refutes the Vatican II Sect, and by God’s grace makes converts, by firmly adhering to Catholic truth on salvation and baptism.

I remember when I was a kid in high school (before I embraced Traditional Catholicism), I used to attend the private school operated by John Hagee’s charismatic “church” called Cornerstone in San Antonio, TX. During piano class, the teacher began praying with a student. She started off in normal English before transitioning into that “speaking in tongues” jibber-jabber. Although I had never heard such gibberish in my life, I just knew it was clearly not of God. I’m so glad I never got involved in that diabolical nonsense and for the truth in these videos.

I live in Argentina. These mummies that you show on the image were found in a volcano (named "Llullaillaco") in Salta, a northwest province of our country. I went to Salta and Jujuy a few weeks ago, and visited the museum where these can be found. They were, indeed, Incan child sacrifices; there are three of them that were found together, mummified and frozen underground. There is a little boy, a little girl and a teenage girl.
The nations are in darkness until the gospel is preached to them. That darkness and ignorance is part of the just punishment for original sin and for the bad will of the people, and is the state in which we all would be living if it wasn't for our Lord's mercy. The various practices of human sacrifice from the ancient world are a testimony of this: that men, because of their bad will and uncapability of cooperating with the natural law, were left to live in the darkness, where they developed vile and cruel superstitions that further plunged them into that darkness. And so, they died without the knowledge of the Truth necessary for salvation, which would have been given to them if they did that which can be naturally understood to be good.
Of course, some nations were deeper into the darkness than others. Some of them have not reached the point where they believe human sacrifice to be good; some of the ones who did were more violent than others, but they all were evil (also, how could child sacrifices be "voluntary"? Children are not capable of giving consent to be sacrificed because they don't understand the gravity of the issue).
It truly is a tragedy that so many adults went into hell and so many children into limbo, and it is a saddening sight that of children that were not saved and will be separated from God for all eternity.

Below is a letter from Pope Gregory IX in which it is taught that those who are baptized in beer are not to be considered rightly or validly baptized. Beer is of course invalid matter. Water is required. However, it’s interesting to consider this quote in light of a point that was mentioned in our recent video: Novus Ordo “Thomists” Fall Into The Pit Defending Islam’s False God.
Pope Gregory IX, Cum Sicut Ex, July 8, 1241: “Since as we have learned from your report, it sometimes happens because of the scarcity of water, that infants of your lands are baptized in beer, we reply to you by the tenor of the present letter, since according to evangelical doctrine it is necessary ‘to be reborn from water and the Holy Spirit’ [John 3:5] they are not to be considered rightly baptized who are baptized in beer.”
Gregory IX’s letter twice refers to people who were “baptized in beer”. Does that mean that people can actually or validly be baptized in beer? No, of course not, because in the very same passage he concludes his statement by teaching that those who are “baptized in beer” are not to be considered rightly or validly baptized. Likewise, our recent video showed that certain authors say that the Samaritans “worshipped God along with idols” or “worshipped God along with devils”, but conclude their statement by teaching that therefore they did not worship God. For example:
Fr. Cornelius Lapide on John 4:22: “He says: O Samaritans, you worship what do you not know, because you worship the God of the Judeans with your Assyrian idols; and making God as it were an associate of idols, you therefore [proinde] worship a false and fictitious God. Again, you worship a God different from the God of the Judeans…”
Lapide links his conclusion that they do not worship the true God but a false god precisely with the fact that they mixed the worship of God with idols. He even uses “ac proinde”, meaning “and therefore”, to make this clear. He writes: “ac proinde falsum fictumque colitis” (you therefore [proinde] worship a false and fictitious God). Yet, certain absurd, deluded and extremely dishonest adherents of the Vatican II Sect will isolate his words, “You worship the God of the Judeans with your Assyrian idols”, to argue that he taught that people can actually worship God along with worshipping idols or devils. That’s nonsense, of course, for it ignores the context and his conclusion which is that the Samaritans who worshipped God along with idols therefore did not worship God. Read properly, his statement that they “worshipped the God of the Judeans with your Assyrian idols” does not mean that they validly or actually worshipped God along with idols. Rather, it means that they attempted to do so and failed, just like Pope Gregory IX’s statement that those who were “baptized in beer” does not mean that people were validly or actually baptized in beer. It only means that some people attempted to baptize with beer, but did not actually or validly do so, as the context shows. The worship of the true God is indeed utterly incompatible with the worship of a false god or idols because worship is a profession of faith. Yet, the aforementioned heretical defenders of Vatican II would have to argue that Pope Gregory IX meant that baptism can actually or validly occur with beer. But that’s false, of course. These considerations about those who were “baptized in beer” further expose the demonic sophistry of defenders of the Vatican II Sect and the absurd lengths to which they will resort in order to defend lies, blasphemy and heresy.

It was recently announced that Antipope Leo XIV will declare John Henry Newman (who died in 1890) to be a “Doctor of the Church”. Newman was a famous writer who is perhaps best known for his work called An Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine. While Newman was very learned, and he did make many interesting points about ecclesiastical history, his understanding of the aforementioned matter was severely flawed. He taught things that are directly contrary to Catholic teaching. We might expand upon this fact. Contrary to Newman’s flawed understanding of dogma and how it relates to divine revelation, the true understanding of it (based on the official pronouncements of the Chair of St. Peter) is covered in our recent video: To Understand Catholic Dogma You Need To Know This.
Newman also taught that the dogma Outside The Church There Is No Salvation has exceptions. That is heretical, and it represented a failure to understand and believe in papal infallibility and the unique protections given to popes when they teach the entire Church. Newman’s statement on that matter was even condemned as a rejection of the salvation dogma by Msgr. Joseph Clifford Fenton (who himself was a liberal on the salvation issue). Newman’s heretical statement on this matter is another example of how the denial of the salvation dogma (which was the key to the Great Apostasy) started (in various fallible sources) before Vatican II.

On July 22, 2025, the Heavy Metal singer Ozzy Osbourn died at age 76. About two weeks before his death Osbourn performed with his diabolical band that’s called “Black Sabbath”. I'm wondering if MHFM might consider doing a video on Leo XIII...
As you've pointed out, Leo XIII foretold the attack on the Catholic Church and the Chair of St. Peter, as proven by his prophetic prayer to St. Michael which he ordered to be recited after Low Masses (and whose prophetic aspect was later removed.) You've also mentioned his... comment that something good would come out of America -- Leo XIII also refers to this in an encyclical - and this despite the fact that, by the time of Leo XIII's reign... the world... was in apostasy and had already begun its descent. When Leo XIII said something good would come from America, he meant something truly Catholic. The Pope knew that the Catholics who emigrated to America (especially the Italians) were targets of the Protestants and were losing the Catholic faith. That's why he asked Mother Cabrini to abandon her lifelong dreams of evangelizing in the east, and to go to America instead.
And Pope Leo XIII seems to have been prophetic in other ways as well.
For one thing, Leo XIII seems to have anticipated Our Lady of Fatima and her call to the Rosary. He is known as 'the Rosary Pope': he stated that he himself was devoted to the Rosary; he wrote 11 encyclicals on the Rosary; and he was the Pope who dedicated the month of October to Our Lady of the Rosary. (Two of his encyclicals are: Magnae Dei Matris (Sept. 8, 1892) and Laetitiae Sanctae (Sept. 16, 1893). The first is a beautiful meditation; the second one is relatively short and explains the specific advantages of praying the Rosary in these times. They are available in English on vatican.va.
Leo XIII, on Dec. 28, 1878, published his encyclical Quod Apostolici Muneris to warn the world of the threat of 'globalism' (even though he didn't use that word), and he said that people who seek domination over others were no longer working in secret, but openly trying to uproot civilization. When we look at a timeline of events, we realize (in retrospect) how correct he was. He described these enemies of God and mankind as those who 'as the sacred text bears witness, defile the flesh, and despise dominion, and blaspheme majesty." And he said this long before Fatima, long before the communist revolt, and long before people had any clue regarding the antichrist program of enslavement and its goal of world domination.
Today, the leading war-mongers of the times appear to be "Zionists" and "Christian Zionists", and it is feared that that these individuals will bring about WWIII. Can this be a coincidence? Pope Leo XIII (long ago) warned the world that it was hastening to its own destruction and he explained why it was happening: "In fact, Venerable Brethren, you know full well that the atrocious war which, starting from the 16th century, was declared against the Catholic faith by the Reformers, and which was growing amain from day to day in vehemence, aimed at giving free course to the rejection of all revelation, the subversion of the supernatural order, and the enthronement of unaided reason with its vagaries, or rather, ravings. Deriving pretentiously its name from reason, this false doctrine, by flattering and stimulating the eagerness to outstrip others which is interwoven with man's [fallen] nature, and giving the rein to every kind of unlawful desire, has taken willing possession of the minds of great numbers, and has pervaded the whole of civilized society." When people reject the doctrines of Christ as preserved and taught by His Church, they have no choice but to follow the apostate angel...
Anticipating the 'ecumenism' of Vatican II, Leo XIII warned about false principles being promoted - especially that Catholic doctrines should be ignored in evangelization in order to make the Church more attractive to heretics. And he also mentioned the heresy that, while certain doctrines might have been relevant in the past, they were no longer appropriate for the 'advanced' civilization of the day.
And long before the so-called 'evangelical' and 'charismatic' movements arose in society, Leo XIII was calling out the errors regarding the Holy Ghost, especially the claim that the Holy Ghost dealt with people directly (no need for the Church.) He was also calling out the demonic belief that the natural order was superior to the supernatural order. In this regard, it is good to remember that the Vatican II Sect and it's leading 'lights' were all abuzz and writing books about 'the Natural Law' (Ignatius press especially comes to mind.) Pope Leo was also outraged by the prevailing notions that lay associations (with no vows) could be greater than membership in religious orders (and we know what ultimately happened to the religious orders in the Church)...
Leo XIII's encyclicals also prove that the Great Apostasy was well underway by the time of his reign, and especially by his death -- while the rest of the world was clueless as to what was going on. What a wonderful pope he was.

A valid baptism does not presuppose that all the elements for the remission of sins must be present or that faith, hope, and charity have been infused. That is only true when one does not place an obstacle in the way. But if one places an obstacle in the way – for example, by rejecting one or more dogmas of the faith – but still wants to be baptized of his or her own free will, then the baptism is valid (i.e. the person receives the baptismal character), but the person does not receive the remission of sins or the grace of the sacrament. They do not worship Jesus and Jesus is God therefore they do not worship God.
