It is not contrary to indefectibility to say that the city of Rome has lost the faith. Various theologians before Vatican II correctly distinguished between the Church or Ecclesia of the city of Rome (under a true pope) and the city itself. The Church of the city of Rome (and the Apostolic See) cannot fall away, but the city can fall into apostasy if the true pope is absent. An assembly in Rome under a notoriously heretical antipope is not actually the Church or Ecclesia of the city of Rome. Various theologians also recognized that the prophecies about Babylon in the Apocalypse refer to the city of Rome (not the Church of Rome) returning to paganism in the last days. That has occurred. The fact that Rome under the Vatican II antipopes is in apostasy is an absolute and irrefutable fact, as our material proves.
