The Council of Constance Condemned John Wyclif as a heretic
Spirituality
St. Alphonsus: âManâs life is short: he cometh forth as a flower, and is destroyedâ (Job 14: 1,2). The Lord commanded Isaias to preach this very truth: âCry,â He said to him, âall flesh is grass⌠indeed the people is grass. The grass is withered, and the flower is fallenâ (Is. 40:6-7). The life of man is like the life of a blade of grass. Death comes, the grass withers, and behold life ends, and the flower falls of all greatness and all worldly goods.â
Doctrine
Pope Martin V: âThis holy synod⌠declares, defines and decrees that the said John Wyclif was a notorious and obstinate heretic who died in heresy, and it anathematizes him and condemns his memory.  It decrees and orders that his body and bones are to be exhumed, if they can be identified among the corpses of the faithful, and to be scattered far from a burial place of the churchâŚâ (Council of Constance, Session 8, âCondemnation of Wyclif,â May 4, 1415)
