St. Polycarp said this to the person who was about to martyr him

To the person who was about to martyr him, St. Polycarp (A.D. 69-155) said: “You threaten fire that burns for a moment and is soon extinguished, for you know nothing of the judgment to come, and the fire of eternal punishment reserved for the wicked.
