God is liberal beyond measure to the humble
Spirituality
St. Alphonsus (c. 1755): âGod, says St. James, resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). The Lord has promised to hear the prayers of all⌠[But] The proud he hears not; according to the Apostle, he resists their petitions. But to the humble he is liberal beyond measure⌠âGive me, O Lordâ, exclaims St. Augustine, âthe treasure of humilityâ⌠St. Teresa relates of herself, that the greatest graces that she received from God were infused into her soul when she humbled herself most before the Lord in prayer.â
Doctrine
Pope Pius XI, Quas Primas (# 19), Dec. 11, 1925: âWhen once men recognize, both in private and public life, that Christ is King, society will at last receive the great blessings of real liberty, well-ordered discipline, peace and harmony.â
