Bellarmine Commentary On Mt. 5:40-41
St. Robert Bellarmine, De Romano Pontifice, Book 4, Chap. 15: “‘And whosoever will force you to go one mile, go with him another two.’ ‘And if someone should take away your coat, give him your cloak also.’ [Mt. 5:40-41] The meaning is not that we should always do this but that we should be prepared to do this whenever that will be necessary for the glory of God.”
