Pope Stephen II Said Lombard King Went To Hell
There are many people who claim that no matter how wickedly a person lived and died, one must never conclude that such a person went to Hell. They are wrong and contradicted by various statements of saints and others. Here’s an interesting example from Pope Stephen II. He stated that the Lombard King Aistulf went to Hell.
Pope Stephen II, To King Pippin (Codex Epistolaris Carolinus 8), 757: “Indeed that tyrant, that follower of the devil, Aistulf, drinker of Christian blood, destroyer of God’s churches, was struck by a divine blow and sank into the pit of Hell…”
