When St. Theresa of Avila saw Hell

St. Theresa of Avila (c. 1540): âWhile I was at prayer one day, I found myself in a moment, without knowing how, plunged apparently into Hell⌠The ground seemed to be saturated with water, mere mud, exceedingly foul⌠and covered with loathsome vermin⌠I cannot describe that inward fire or that despair, surpassing all torments and all pain⌠Our Lord at that time would not let me see any more of Hell.â
Doctrine
Pope Pius XI (1930): â⌠there can be no true marriage between baptized persons without it being by that very fact a sacrament.â (Casti Connubii #39)
