New details on a deadly accident that took the life of a 24-year-old Mishawaka woman early Sunday morning. St. Joseph County's Fatal Alcohol Crash Team or F.A.C.T. has not released her name, but multiple family members of the victim have confirmed tonight that the woman who died is Amanda Ezra, a mother of three...
It all happened at around 4:40 Sunday morning on Father's Day. Police described the situation as a combination of suspected drunk driving and a set of freak circumstances that made for deadly results.
Amanda Ezra's Facebook page now features messages of grief. According to family, she was trying to get her life back on track. The mother of three recently enrolled at Ivy Tech and wanted to be a teacher.
But early Sunday morning, in the 300 block of Chestnut Street in Osceola, her future came to an end as she was riding in a minivan with four other people. According to a F.A.C.T. investigator, the victim was on the lap of a front seat passenger with her head out the window vomiting. Her head hit something outside the van, resulting in her death
"It's just a shame of the amount of people that are getting killed in drunk driving accidents, it's just something that shouldn't be done," Mike Lyman said.
According to Tim Spencer with F.A.C.T., the victim had been drinking earlier before she died...
Spencer says the driver of the van Ezra was riding in has been arrested for OWI causing serious bodily injury and leaving the scene. He says the driver and one of the passengers ran away, but police caught them.
