“Who is President Zelenskyy?  President Volodymyr Zelenskyy went from playing a president on TV to leading Ukraine against an invasion from Russia.  Zelenskyy is married to Olena Zelenska and they have two children together.  He graduated from the Kyiv National Economic University with a law degree in 2000, but decided to go into acting.  Zelenskyy formed the comedy troupe Kvartal 95 and in 2003 the group began producing television programs.  In 2015, Zelenskyy played the role of the president of Ukraine on the show ‘Servant of the People’.  The show was so popular Kvartal 95 created a political party named ‘Servant of the People.’  In 2018 Zelenskyy announced his candidacy for president and vowed to crack down on corruption.  Zelenskyy won the election with 73% of the vote and was inaugurated in May 2019.  In the past year he has taken a harder line against pro-Russian political factions in Ukraine.”
