U.S., other countries working on AI drones that can "decide" to kill people
The US, Israel, and China are reportedly developing AI-controlled drones that can make their own decisions about whether to terminate human targets.
According to The New York Times, several countries are lobbying the UN for a binding resolution restricting the use of AI “killer drones,” but the US, Russia, Australia, Israel, and other nations are resisting the move and favoring a non-binding resolution instead.
Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall told The Times, "Individual decisions versus not doing individual decisions is the difference between winning and losing — and you're not going to lose."
He added, "I don't think people we would be up against would do that, and it would give them a huge advantage if we put that limitation on ourselves."
Earlier this year it was reported that the Pentagon is already working on thousands of AI-enabled drones.
