Tesco shopper asked for ID buying FRUIT because it could be made into alcohol
mirror.co.uk A confused shopper was asked for ID when buying a pot of fruit from Tesco - because she was warned it could turn into alcohol. Kate Lancaster, 37, was using a self service till from her local store to buy a £1 tub of water melon and grapes, when it flashed up as 'requiring ID'. She says she was told by staff they could only sell a packet of fruit to someone over-18 amid fears it could get their customers drunk. The 37-year-old emailed the supermarket giant and claims she was told a new policy meant "fruit will be age verified in case natural fermentation takes place".
