"Swiss bishop says no excommunication for parishioners who gave Eucharist to dogs"
"A Swiss Catholic diocese has ruled that three Catholics who shared consecrated hosts with their dogs did not incur excommunication because they lacked sacrilegious intent. On April 17, the Diocese of Chur, Switzerland, announced the conclusion of an investigation into an incident that occurred on October 4, 2025, at Guthirt (âGood Shepherdâ) Parish in Zurich, where three individuals gave portions of the Blessed Eucharist to their dogs during a Mass held in conjunction with an animal blessing. Joseph Maria Bonnemain, Bishop of Chur, determined that the individuals did not act with sacrilegious intent and therefore did not commit a canonical crime warranting excommunication."
