Stephanie Faye Hamman Allegedly Stabs Husband For 'Worshipping NASCAR'
Sebastian Murdock huffingtonpost.com A Tennessee woman is accused of smashing her car into a church and stabbing her husband in the chest because she said the devil was in her. Stephanie Hamman, 23, was charged Sunday with attempted first degree murder and felony vandalism, according to WJHL. Shortly after 10 p.m., Hamman's husband, Steven, told authorities that his wife drove her car through the front doors of a church after she called him. When Steven arrived, he said he found her lying in front of the altar. That's when his wife allegedly said "The devil is in me" before stabbing him in the chest with a kitchen knife. Steven Hamman managed to pull the knife out of his body, return to his apartment and alert authorities. The Church Hill Police Department took the woman into custody after finding her at an emergency room. Hamman allegedly told police her stabbing resulted from her husband watching too much NASCAR, among other reasons. "She stated God had told her that smoking marijuana all day and all night was not good for her, and that she only needed to smoke it at night to help her relax," CHPD Chief Mark Johnson told Times News. "Mrs. Hamman further stated that she felt her husband Steven was worshiping the NASCAR race at Bristol, which made her mad, and she began having thoughts that the devil put in her head." During her arrest, Hamman allegedly asked police if her husband was alive or not. "The devil told me to take the kitchen knife with me," Hamman said, according to a CHPD press release obtained by the Bluefield Daily Telegraph. "I prayed I would not have to use it on him, but I did. When Steven came to check on me, I told him the devil was in me and I stabbed him in the heart. Have you heard if he is dead or not?"
