St. Thomas: Some Sinners Are Manifest Without A Declaration
The following statement of St. Thomas is interesting. He recognizes that some sinners are manifest by mere evidence of the fact, even if they have not been declared by a tribunal or judge. The same principle is recognized in papal teaching and canon law, as we’ve pointed out repeatedly. Such facts contradict the false arguments of many defenders of the Vatican II Sect. Many of them deny that someone can be recognized as a public sinner by notoriety of the fact itself without any declaration. They simply do not understand or adhere to Catholic teaching and principles.
St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologiae, Pt. 3, Q. 80, A. 6: “A distinction must be made among sinners: some are secret; others are notorious, either from evidence of the fact, as public usurers or public robbers, or from being denounced as evil men by some ecclesiastical or civil tribunal.”
