Rome seeks to be 'capital of homophobia fight'
thelocal.it Contestants from around the globe have arrived in Rome for the Mister Gay World 2014 contest as the city seeks to become the "capital of the fight against homophobia". The 23 contestants flew into Rome on Sunday from as far as New Zealand, with the hope of being crowned Mister Gay World on Saturday night. The week-long programme in the lead up to the winner being crowned has included a trip to city hall and making tiramisu. Italian Nicola La Triglia, 28, will have to compete in a string of challenges to be in with a hope of claiming the title. In addition to a swimwear competition and photogenic challenge, contestants also have to take part in a string of other tests including a "job interview" judged by an international panel. In a video message, councillor Imma Battaglia welcomed the competitors to Rome and said she hoped the city could become the "capital of the fight against homophobia".
