Rescued kitten that may have been used as bait recovering
ajc.com
REDWOOD CITY, California — Not only is an 8-week-old kitten recovering after being left at a shelter with deep puncture wounds and purple-dyed fur, he’s got a new best buddy who also started life out on the rough side.
The tiny animal was named “Smurf” by shelter workers who say he may have been used as bait or a chew toy for a fighting dog.
Now, barely a week later, Smurf acts like nothing ever happened, a veterinarian said in a follow-up report, and a big part of his quick rebound has to do with his best buddy, a 12-week-old blind kitten who was found in a garbage can, shivering and in pain, caretakers say.
