Report: Iran Planning "Large-Scale Assault" On Saudi Oil Facility

The Israeli independent intelligence news site DEBKAfile is reporting that U.S. intelligence sources are warning that Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is planning to target an important Saudi oil facility “within days.”

According to the “highly credible source,” the IRGC is planning a “large-scale assault” on the facility. The report states aides to senior members of Congress were summoned to the White House for a briefing on the new intelligence.

DEBKAfile was also told the Trump administration is gearing up for a military response, should Tehran follow through on the attack. This also comes amid reports that Camp Taji in Iraq has fallen under rocket attack—likely with Iran’s backing...

Pressure is mounting on Tehran at the moment. In addition to providing what it says is more proof of Iran’s involvement in last week’s attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, U.S. Central Command has also announced it will be sending an additional one thousand troops to the Persian Gulf region. The efforts of the U.S. military belie a desire to justify some future military action against the Islamic Republic.

Meanwhile, an adviser to European Union Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini says President Trump is no longer in control of U.S. policy regarding Iran … and suggested he should fire National Security Adviser John Bolton. Nathalie Tocci, who authored the European Global Strategy, told the Russian news outlet RT that Mr. Bolton has led the president “into a very different direction” regarding Tehran than he would have otherwise gone.
