RAF jets scrambled to confront five Russian warplanes threatening Estonian airspace

RAF typhoons rushed to confront Russian planes posing a threat to Estonian airspace today, the Ministry of Defence has announced.
The incident saw two British fighters rush to intercept the jet under NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission agreement.
The jets, which have the capacity to reach 1,500mph, are currently stationed at Estonia’s Amari air base on temporary basis.
RAF crews initially spotted two Su-27 Flanker fighters and an IL-20 Coot-A spy plane, before a further two Su-27s came into their line of sight, in what is the latest show of aggression by the nation.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the Russian aircraft had turned off their transponders.
