“President Slammed for ‘Anti-Semitic Dual Loyalty Trope’”
trunews.com
President Donald Trump is under fire yet today after his speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas over the weekend.
During his speech, the president told his audience:
“I stood with your prime minister at the White House to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights … Democrats are advancing the most extreme partisan agenda by far in American history—people aren’t fighting for Israel in Congress. If implemented, the Democrats’ radical agenda would destroy our economy, cripple our country, and very well could leave Israel out there all by yourselves. Can’t do that.”
The left-of-center American Jewish Committee slammed the president with the following statement:
“Mr. President, the prime minister of Israel is the leader of his (or her) country, not ours. Statements to the contrary, from staunch friends or harsh critics, feed bigotry.”
The criticism was picked up by all of the major Israeli news outlets. But the American left was already running with it, as well as the president’s dig against Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who has been a proverbial punching bag for charges of anti-Semitism since she was sworn in three months ago.
The president thanked several members of Congress who were in attendance for his RJC speech, then jokingly referred to the congresswoman:
“And a special thanks to Representative Omar of Minnesota. Oh, oh, I forgot. She doesn’t like Israel. I forgot. I’m so sorry. Oh, oh no. She doesn’t like Israel, does she? Oh, please, I apologize.”...
The president’s support for Israel cannot be denied, however, and it would seem the Israeli government has been all too willing to exploit it. Prime Minister Netanyahu is telling Israelis that if he’s re-elected, he will not allow the creation of a separate Palestinian state alongside Israel, and vowed to expand sovereignty claims to Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
Israel’s Defense Ministry has now given its approval for an additional 3,600 settlement units beyond the so-called “Green Line” that separates Israel from the occupied West Bank. Israeli media reports suggest this is all part of a much bigger plan tied to President Trump’s “Deal of the Century” peace plan.
