Iceland’s met office has recorded extreme seismic activity under the ground around the Bardarbunga, and yesterday raised the volcano’s eruption risk level to orange – the second highest level under red. The dust cloud created by an eruption of such a large volcano could have dramatic short-term affects on the UK’s climate, similar to the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajökull, which also caused major disruption to British flights.
