Hospital kidnaps teen from parents & forces her to be hospitalized for 10 months
Rob Richardson offgridsurvival.com A 15-year-old girl, Justina Pelletier, has been imprisoned inside a Boston Hospital for over 9 months, after the hospital and the Department of Children Family Services decided the parents were becoming too active in their daughters treatment. The girl’s father told reporters, “It is kidnapping” … “It’s beyond any wildest nightmare that you could think of.” After a long history of medical problems, Justina was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease. The disease is a genetic disorder that can cause a loss of muscle coordination and weakness. Despite the diagnosis she lived a relatively normal life, and prior to being admitted to the Hospital for the Flu, the girl was an active teen that would go ice skating and spend time with her family. That all changed last February, when the Justina got the Flu and had to be admitted to Boston Children’s Hospital to see her specialist. Dean Hokanson, the clinical psychologist who has worked with Justina the past five years, said, “It’s the most bizarre situation … I’ve ever been involved with.” Upon entering the hospital, a team of doctors who had never worked with the girl gave a completely different diagnosis, and then accused the family of being too active in their child’s care. Hokanson, who’s puzzled by the hospitals behavior said, “They were actually being accused of being too active in pursuing health care matters for their child.” Boston Children’s Hospital accused the parents of over treating Justina, claiming she was suffering from Somafotorm disorder – a psychological condition that manifests itself in physical symptoms. Within days of being admitted, Boston Children’s hospital had the Department of Children and Families give them custody of the girl. Apparently they didn’t agree with the her original diagnosis and treatment plan, in spite of the fact that her treatment had been approved by multiple doctors who had been treating her for over five years. In an email sent by the child’s original doctor, Tufts Medical Center specialist Dr. Mark Korson, he writes, “I am dismayed. … It feels like Justina’s treatment team is out to prove the diagnosis at all costs. … The team has demanded that Justina be removed from the home. … This represents the most severe and intrusive intervention a patient can undergo … for a clinical hunch.” Nine months after being admitted, the family continues to fight to regain custody of their daughter who is still imprisoned in the hospital. to read more click here: offgridsurvival.com
