vaticaninsider.lastampa.it Your pontificate? “I have the feeling that my Pontificate will be brief: 4 or 5 years.” Retirement? “I do not really like the idea of an age limit.” In a long interview with Valentina Alazraki a correspondent from Mexican broadcaster Televisa – and one of the most distinguished Vaticanistas who has reported on papal visits since the start of John Paul II’s pontificate – Pope Francis repeated what he had already said in the past about the duration of his pontificate and made some important clarifications which disprove any theories about a possible retirement once he reaches 80. He also said he was against an age limit being set for the Bishop of Rome. “I have the feeling that my Pontificate will be brief,” Francis told Televisa. “4 or 5 years; I do not know, even 2 or 3. Two have already passed. It is a somewhat vague sensation. Maybe it's like the psychology of the gambler who convinces himself he will lose so he won’t be disappointed and if he wins, is happy. I do not know.
