First electric school bus enters service in California
Ronan Glon leftlanenews.com The first modern all-electric school bus in America has been put into service by Kings Canyon Unified School District (KCUSD) in Foster City, California. Built by a company named Trans Tech Bus on a modified Ford E-450 platform, the SST-e is capable of carrying 25 children for up to 100 miles before needing to be recharged. Seating capacity goes down to 18 when the bus is ordered with a wheelchair lift. Preliminary studies predict the battery-powered bus will save KCUSD up to $10,000 a year in diesel fuel and regular maintenance. The bus will also help reduce the amount of diesel particles that children breath near schools.
