Excluded From The Book Of Life For Sins (Exodus 32)
In Revelation 20:15 and Revelation 21:27 we are informed that only those who are written in the Book of Life will be saved.
Revelation 20:15- “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 21:27- “But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”
Yet in Exodus 32:33, following the Golden Calf incident, God tells Moses that (grave) sins exclude people from the Book of Life.
Exodus 32:31-33- “So Moses returned to the Lord and said, ‘Alas, this people has sinned a great sin. They have made for themselves gods of gold. But now, if you will forgive their sin—but if not, please blot me out of your book that you have written.’ But the Lord said to Moses, ‘Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot out of my book.’”
This is another clear biblical proof against the heresy of “eternal security” (or once saved always saved) and faith alone. It demonstrates that not just one’s beliefs but one’s actions and obedience determine whether he or she will be saved.
