“And in the US, the Christmas carols are now being labeled Anti-Semitic. On Wednesday, the Council of Centers on Jewish-Christian Relations published a document faulting Christianity for Anti-Semitism. Several authors of the document afterward criticized Christmas carols and Advent hymns for supposedly inspiring hatred.
One scholar tore into ‘O Come, O Come Emmanuel’, asking: ‘So Israel is captive, and the understanding is they are in exile because of their sin. And Jesus is going to appear and solve all these problems.’
Catholic leaders in the Holy Land are warning of potential persecution. The Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land published a statement on Monday expressing concern incoming Israeli leaders may take a less-than-friendly stance for Christians. This follows the President of the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem sharing similar concerns, especially over the Jewish power party which has defended the burning of Catholic churches and called for Christians to be expelled from Israel.
Juergen Buehler: ‘We also are a little bit concerned about some of the coalition partners that are coming into the government, which didn’t say so nice things about Christians in the past years.’”
