"Chicago Cathedral Celebrates LGBTQ+ Catholics"
"At Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, LGBTQ+ identities are celebrated.
In May the cathedral celebrated its 175th anniversary and its role in the founding of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s LGBTQ+ Outreach (AGLO), The Chicago Catholic newspaper recently reported.
In 1988, six parishes, including Holy Name Cathedral, came together to support LGBTQ+ Catholics by providing priests for weekly masses and holding quarterly planning meetings for other forms of LGBTQ+ ministry. Since then, AGLO has become a representative on the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council and has received support from Cardinal Cupich of Chicago.
Holy Name Cathedral has continued to support AGLO and LGBTQ+ Catholics throughout the years. In her comments during the anniversary mass, AGLO co-director Angelina Rossi emphasized that Holy Name Cathedral’s support 'means everything':
'We could not do what we do without your willingness to give your full support to our mission to serve our community.'
'On behalf of AGLO Chicago, we are extremely thankful for our shared past, shared present and look forward to a long relationship into the future, serving the LGBTQ+ Catholic community.'"
