"Catholic Archbishop" says he respects "gays" and has no problem with a "gay" pageant
anc.yahoo.com At the recently held Miss Gay Quiapo 2014 pageant in Manila's Barangay 306 Zone 30, 26 candidates in full drag regalia vied for the title. Right next to stage was a replica of the Black Nazarene, whose feast day will be commemorated on Thursday, Jan. 9.
The stage's backdrop also had these words printed: "Alay sa Kapistahan ng Banal na Poong Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno."
That was why it was almost surreal to see the candidates sashay on stage. One of them, who impersonated actress Anne Curtis' sister, Jasmine, even ended his introductory spiel by saying, "If you have it, show it. Mamatay sila sa inggit."
"Archbishop emeritus" Oscar Cruz (Screengrab from a TV Patrol clip) When asked how he felt about the pageant, Archbishop emeritus Oscar Cruz said, "I do not feel bad [about it]. I respect gay men and I don't think there was any intention on the part of those concerned to be irreverent to the Black Nazarene. Who knows? They could be devotees also of the Black Nazarene, too."Sign up for our free e-mail list to see future vaticancatholic.com videos and articles.
