Barr reportedly tried to hide Hunter Biden investigations from public view in lead up to presidential election
Attorney General William Barr worked to stop investigations into Hunter Biden's business and financial dealings from being disclosed to the public during the election campaign, according to a person familiar with the matter. Barr reportedly knew about the investigations for months. The Wall Street Journal reported that Barr was aware of investigations involving democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden's son since before the spring. Barr was allegedly able to resist pressure from Republicans in Congress for information into the investigations. On Wednesday, Hunter Biden said that the U.S. Attorney's Office in Delaware is investigating his "tax affairs" and that he is taking it "very seriously." Hunter Biden is "confident" he handled his affairs "legally and appropriately." A government source said that Hunter Biden is a subject and target of the grand jury investigation, with "target" meaning that there is a "high probability that person committed a crime" and "subject" being someone you "don't know for sure" has committed a crime. Although never a specific target for prosecution, federal prosecutors in Manhattan had also been looking into Hunter Biden's dealings as part of a broader financial investigation. Knowing the impact it could have on the election, investigators tried to keep the case out of public view in the weeks leading up to it. President Trump, who has constantly been urging Barr to get involved, criticized the DOJ, the FBI, and the media's handling of the case.
