An apple a day... cuts the risk of heart disease by 40%.
Researchers have found that people who eat fruit daily are much less likely to have cardiovascular disease than those who eat none.
The study of 500,000 people also found the more fruit you eat, the more your heart disease risk falls. It also cuts blood pressure by up to four points.
The Oxford University survey, presented to the European Society of Cardiology in Barcelona, is the first to show how fruit alone affects health.
The British Heart Foundation said: “This study adds to the growing body of evidence that shows the more fruit and vegetables we eat the better our heart health.
