The following is a translation of an introductory note written by Francis (taken from the 9/27/19 issue of L’Osservatore Romano) “for Franca Giansoldati’s new book, ‘L’alfabeto verde di Papa Francesco. Salvare la Terra e vivere felici’” (The green alphabet of Pope Francis. Save the Earth and live happily).” No date was given in the newspaper for Francis’ note.
Thank you for your latest publication that highlights the need for a great-hearted green revolution. In recent years I have spoken many times about the environmental emergency and how, for everyone, first and foremost Christians, it is necessary to change our lifestyle… We are still in time to reverse the headlong course to the abyss... But we need a revolution from the ground up, which begins with everyday behavior…”
Francis calls for “a great-hearted green revolution” to save humanity from the “abyss”, but he holds that it’s wrong to try to convert people to Catholicism to save them from the real abyss.
