Florida Man Arrested After Handing Dashcam Footage Over To Cops
carscoops.com
Dashcams have grown in popularity and are a useful tool in proving who was a fault for an accident. One man in Florida recently discovered they can also have unintended consequences as he was arrested after allowing police officers to view his dashcam footage.
According to the Miami Herald, Xavier Moran was involved in an accident and told officers he had dashcam footage which showed the crash was caused by another driver who cut him off. Moran then provided his signed consent for officers to view the footage.
Unfortunately for Moran, officers went through the footage and discovered a crime that had nothing to do with the accident. There are conflicting reports about what was on the video but The Palm Beach Post says the clip showed Moran taking a baseball bat from the trunk of his car and then handing it over to someone else. That person then used the bat to break the glass door of a beauty store so Moran could burglarize it.
Police arrested Moran last Tuesday and he is now facing charges of burglary of a dwelling and being in the possession of burglary tools.
Moran likely assumed police would only be interested in the footage from the accident but this proved to be a drastic miscalculation as the new charges have the potential to carry significant jail time. However, it remains unclear if the footage showed he wasn’t at fault for the accident.
Moran isn’t a stranger to police as The Daily Mail reports he was arrested on April 7th for allegedly threatening to shoot his brother. He reportedly tried to escape, while in handcuffs, but wasn’t successful so he is facing multiple charges in that incident as well.
