“This Is Where Xi Jinping Will Ride Out A Nuclear War”

According to new report, scientists have exposed the deep caves where the hierarchy of the Chinese government, particularly President Xi Jinping and his inner circle, will hide in the event of a nuclear war.

The South China Morning Post reports a nuclear bunker located about 12 miles northwest of the government headquarters in China, buried deep in what the newspaper describes as “the deepest limestone karst caves in the world,” is constructed nearly a mile and a half below ground. There, China’s top leadership, their subordinates, troops and staff will survive any nuclear attack on their country.

The newspaper reports the caves were discovered by a geological survey in a national park adjacent to the Central Military Commission’s Joint Battle Command Centre. The facility is said to have space for a “small city,” and a stable water supply for up to 1 million people.

The joint battle command center, revealed nearly two years ago by Xi, is where he gave his “war preparation” speech to the People’s Liberation Army last week.

The report comes amid heightened tensions regarding the prospects of nuclear war involving the U.S. and North Korea. Late last month, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention announced it will hold a presentation for federal, state, and local public health officials to discuss recommendations to prepare for a future nuclear detonation. The event description states:

While a nuclear detonation is unlikely, it would have devastating results and there would be limited time to take critical protection steps. Despite the fear surrounding such an event, planning and preparation can lessen deaths and illness.  For instance, most people don’t realize that sheltering in place for at least 24 hours is crucial to saving lives and reducing exposure to radiation. While federal, state, and local agencies will lead the immediate response efforts, public health will play a key role in responding.
