Defector Says NK Preparing Largest Missile Test

According to a North Korean defector, North Korea is planning to launch its largest ICBM to date to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the country's founding.

Japan’s Mainichi newspaper did not identify the defector, but said he as “someone who was involved in the regime’s missile program and has retained linked to contacts in the North.” According to the newspaper, the defector’s sources claim Kim Jong-un has ordered North Korean scientists to construct the regime’s largest rocket to be launched Sept. 9, 2018 to mark the 70th anniversary of his family’s founding of the country.

The dictator held two days of meetings three weeks ago in Pyongyang at which the order was reportedly given to develop the Unha-4 rocket, which would be a larger version of the Unha-3 that has been previously used to allegedly place satellites into orbit. The three-stage rocket is based on Russian Scud ballistic missile technology and would have the dual purpose of testing warhead re-entry, or even covering an open-air nuclear test.
