Congressman: Mueller "Hopelessly Compromised"

Citing evidence the FBI, under Robert Mueller’s leadership, “withheld information from Congress and from the American people about Russian corruption of American uranium companies,” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) has introduced a resolution in the House calling for the special counsel’s resignation.

Gaetz, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, which has oversight of not only the Justice Department and FBI, but also the Office of Special Counsel, noted reports of a businessman who served as a confidential witness for the FBI in an investigation into an American uranium trucking firm compromised by Russian officials through bribery and financial kickbacks. He also noted Mueller’s FBI silenced this witness with a non-disclosure agreement, and threatened legal action if he spoke to Congress about what he knew. 

He added:

"By silencing him, Obama’s Justice Department and Mueller’s FBI knowingly kept Congress in the dark about Russia’s significant and illegal involvement with American uranium companies. These deeply troubling events took place when Mr. Mueller was the Director of the FBI. As such, his impartiality is hopelessly compromised. He must step down immediately."

The resolution, which states “any thorough and honest investigation into the corruption of American-uranium related business must include investigating the willful blindness of the FBI and its leaders,” and noting the conflict of interest laws that would be triggered by such investigation, is co-sponsored by Reps. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas). Gaetz also authored a bill in July to require a special counsel investigation into:

• former FBI Director James Comey’s collusion with Robert Mueller,
• the FBI’s mishandling of the Hillary Clinton investigation, and
• former Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s infamous “tarmac meeting” with President Bill Clinton.
