Girl, 16, left with serious facial injuries after driver mowed her down as she played Pokemon Go on her skateboard in the street - then fled the scene

A teen who was crossing the street near her home while playing Pokemon Go was the victim of a hit and run that left her crushed and battered in the hospital.
Adriana Boss, 16, was at home with her mom around 10pm on Sunday night in Port Orange, Florida, when she saw on the popular Pokemom Go app that there was a mythical critter located across her street near Booth's Bowery, reports News Journal Online.
She asked permission from her mother to go find it, then went across the street on her skateboard, but was hit by a car driving 40 to 50mph at the intersection of S. Nova Road and Herbert Street, according to Boss' family...
Heather Leonard, 33, did not stop after hitting the girl and has been charged with fleeing the scene of a crash with serious injuries...
Leonard told authorities she thought she'd hit an animal.Because Adriana was not in a crosswalk, Leonard will only be charged with leaving the scene, not with hitting the teen, said the girl's mom, Suzanne Boss.
The teen's extensive injuries include an arm and leg are broken in several places, her knee must be reconstructed, her jaw is broken on one side and completely crushed on another, several teeth were destroyed, her eardrum is ruptured and she is unable to hear in one ear.
One of the teen's teeth was embedded in Leonard's windshield and some of her skin was on the hood, reported the outlet.
Her mother says that police told her if her daughter had been hit one second before or after when she was, she would not be alive.
