"Catholic Bishop" participates in ceremony for Slovenia’s 1st mosque - helps lay the foundation stone for the nation’s first mosque

catholicculture.org Bishop Andrej Glavan of Novo Mesto, the president of the Slovenian Bishops’ Conference, participated in the laying of the foundation stone for the nation’s first mosque on September 14, according to a statement from the conference. Bishop Glavan called the mosque a “symbol of the opening of the Slovenian society, but also a symbol of commitment to future generations to live in dialogue, mutual respect and friendship.” The bishop “also expressed the desire that Christians in the Muslim world could enjoy the same mode of religious liberty,” according to the conference. The nation’s bishops have found in Slovenia’s leading Muslim cleric an ally in opposing the legalization of same-sex marriage, the conference statement noted.
