Teens Who Raped 87-Year-Old Woman, Poured Bleach Down Her Throat Are Sentenced To 30 Years In Prison

The Los Angeles Times reports 15-year-old Raymond Miranda and Ruben Melanson, 16, were sentenced as adults. They both pleaded guilty to multiple charges including rape, burglary and elder abuse, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Riverside County district attorney’s office. At the sentencing hearing Friday, Deputy District Attorney Sean Crandell said the attack was one of the worst he had seen in his 17 years on the job. The teens, who were 14 and 15 at the time of the crime, were said to have snuck into the woman’s apartment at Camelot Retirement Community in Hemet, California, in April 2014. Crandell told the judge they tied the woman up, raped her, and poured two bottles of bleach over her body and down her throat. ​ “This was almost a homicide,” Crandell said, according to The Press Enterprise.​
