Bellarmine: Faith Is The Way To Understand
St. Robert Bellarmine, De Justificatione, Book 1, Chap. 7: âIt is established, therefore, that faith is not knowledge but assent. For in the first place Isaiah chapter 7 openly proclaims: Unless you believe, you will not understand. There we see that faith is not understanding but the way and step to understand⌠Likewise in 1 Cor. 13 the Apostle distinguishes the knowledge of mysteries from faith as two diverse gifts. âIf I shall haveâ, he says, âall knowledge and I should know all mysteries, and all faithâ [1 Cor. 13:2].â
