"Villanova To Host ‘How To Talk To Kids About Gender Identity’ Monday"
"According to an ad shared with CatholicVote, an hour-long discussion titled ‘How to Talk to Your Kids About Gender Identity’ is set to take place at Villanova University just outside Philadelphia this Monday.
The talk is scheduled to be held in the lower level of Villanova’s Falvey Library. One of its speakers is an employee of the Catholic university’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office.
Founded in 1842, Villanova is affiliated with the Order of Saint Augustine (Augustinians).
'Join Parenthood Collective on Monday, April 29, in the IDEA Lab in Falvey from noon to 1 p.m. for an open discussion on how to talk to your kids about gender identity,' states the short ad, which includes the Villanova logo.
'Lori Pineiro Sinitzky (she/her), program coordinator, and Lain Carter (he/him), education and training specialist from Villanova’s Office of [DEI], will provide an understanding of gender identity and ways to support children in gender exploration,' the ad continues.
The Falvey Library is named in honor of Fr. Daniel P. Falvey, OSA, a Catholic Augustinian priest who died in 1962. According to Villanova Magazine, Falvey 'dedicated nearly half his life to the Library.'
The library’s website lists 'Inclusion' as one of its 'values.'
'We contribute to the creation of a caring community in the spirit of Villanova University’s Augustinian values,' adds the website in the description of this 'value.'
The library is a member of the American Library Association (ALA), as well as the American Theological Library Association and the Catholic Research Resources Alliance.
The ALA has, in the last year, made headlines for having a self-described 'Marxist lesbian' president as well as promoting sexually explicit LGBTQ books marketed toward minors.
In addition, the Falvey Library’s website features a 'LGBTQ+' webpage. This webpage states:
Through the course of history, countless individuals have been targeted based on their appearance, voice, beliefs, and romantic interests. At Villanova, we believe that the best way to combat these occurrences is to establish an environment of equality and shared respect.
'The LGBTQ+ Community at Villanova is active, welcoming, and committed to fostering inclusion on campus,' it continues.
'By focusing on visibility and action, we have seen steady growth in support from students and faculty, both as allies and members of the LGBTQ+ Community,' the page adds...
In 2022, deeply controversial pro-LGBTQ group New Ways Ministry (NWM) praised Villanova’s DEI office for directing university staff to use language and other 'practices' more 'inclusive' to people who call themselves 'transgender' and 'nonbinary.'
'At just two pages long, the list of suggestions to faculty and staff is brief, but includes valuable best practices which could be applied to all Catholic institutions of higher learning,' NWM stated at the time.
NWM’s congratulatory article provided the following excerpt from the introduction of Villanova’s 'Gender Inclusive Practices Guide':
Especially for those who identify within transgender, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, and/or gender questioning communities. How can we cultivate gender-inclusive teaching and work environments? How can we invite full participation from people of all genders and respond to the harmful effects of gender stereotyping or misgendering?
NWM considers itself to be 'a Catholic outreach that educates and advocates for equity, inclusion, and justice for LGBTQ+ persons, equipping leaders to build bridges of dialogue within the Church and civil society.'"
