"'Misgendering' would be a crime with a possible 2-year jail sentence under the UK's far-left Labour Party"
"The U.K.'s left-wing Labour Party said that it would punish 'perpetrators of anti-LGBT+ hate' if it were elected, which includes imprisonment for a person who refused to use another's preferred pronouns.
The Daily Mail revealed that the Labour Party would make calling people by pronouns they don't like a hate crime and upgrade charges to 'aggravated offences.' The party would also reportedly strengthen the sentencing guidelines for what they describe as abuse and violence targeted toward transgender people.
This means that alleged transphobic actions would be equated with assault and harassment hate crimes, which carry a possible sentence of up to two years in prison.
Anneliese Dodds, the Labour Party's shadow Women and Equalities secretary, said that 'the Conservatives are failing to protect LGBT+ people with their inability to get a handle on hate crime, including violent hate crime.'
'Labour will strengthen the law to ensure the perpetrators of anti-LGBT+ hate can no longer dodge longer sentences. And our fully funded plan to recruit 13,000 more neighborhood police and community support officers would increase safety for everyone,' the politician added.
A Conservative source told the Daily Mail that 'some police forces have shown themselves overzealous in the pursuit of supposed hate crimes, and this reform would send them a signal to go even further.'
'We've seen people arrested for misgendering, but this isn't enough for Labour – they want them locked up for two years,' the source added...
David McConnell was arrested in England in 2022 for not referring to a man who believes he is a woman as a woman. McConnell called the male a 'man' and a 'gentleman' during an argument in the street and was convicted of harassment.
McConnell was given 12 months of community service for leaving the man 'emotionally distraught.'
However, his conviction was later dropped.
A similar case involved Kate Scottow, who was reportedly arrested for calling a man who dressed as a woman 'a pig in a wig' on social media.
Scottow allegedly referred to herself as a 'radical feminist,' but that did not stop her from being charged with 'persistently making use of a public communications network to cause annoyance, inconvenience, and anxiety.'
Her charges were also overturned when a judge found that the conviction was 'a grossly disproportionate and entirely unjustified state interference with free speech.'"
