Evan Bleier upi.com Russian shepherd Yusuf Alchagirov, 80, fought with a bear and was tossed over a cliff, but somehow only ended up with bruises, bite wounds and four broken ribs. Alchagirov was in a raspberry field in the southern Russian region of Kabardino-Balkaria last week when a bear approached him. Feeling threatened, Alchagirov kicked and headbutted the bear and managed to knock it off balance. The bear, not very pleased with being attacked, threw Alchagirov over a nearby cliff. The elderly man was hospitalized for his injuries and released after a few days. The extent of the bear’s injuries, if there were any, is unknown. "I got off easy. It would have killed me if I'd chickened out," Alchagirov said. Following his release from the hospital, Alchagirov returned home to enjoy some traditional pies his family had baked to celebrate his survival. There have been other reports of hungry bears approaching people in the area after a rash of floods has eliminated many of their natural food sources. No plans have been made to track down the bear that approached Alchagirov. to read more click here: upi.com
