21,000 drug convictions set to be quashed after Massachusetts chemist tampered with evidence

About 21,000 drug convictions are set to be thrown out in Massachusetts after a chemist admitted tampering with evidence and falsifying results.
It could be the single largest dismissal of criminal convictions in US history.
Annie Dookhan, who has been accused of falsifying her work as long ago as 2004, pleaded guilty in 2013 to the obstruction of justice, perjury and tampering with evidence.
Prosecutors said she had admitted testing only a fraction of a batch of samples at the state drug lab, before labelling them all as positive for illegal drugs.
Her motive was to boost her productivity and improve her reputation, prosecutors said.
It is not known exactly how many tests she falsified, but many thousands were rendered uncertain.
